It’s also the kickoff to an expanded ACC Conference, which now boasts 17 full-time teams with the additions of Stanford, Cal and SMU.

After being snubbed out of the college football playoff last season (13-1), the reigning ACC champion Seminoles are back for revenge following an unsightly 63-3 drubbing from Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

With 13 players gone to the NFL Draft, a new season begins in a unique setting as head coach Mike Norvell’s bunch descend upon Dublin for their season opener. Standing in their way is a Yellow Jackets program trying to get their feet off the ground after reaching their first bowl game since 2018.

Heisman finalist quarterback Jordan Travis’ dazzling performances last season are now just memories. Florida State hands the ball over to DJ Uiagalelei, who is coming off career highs in yards per game (219.8) and yards per attempt (8.37) in one year at Oregon State. His offensive line is an experienced one that is proven its mettle in big games.

Lawrance Toafili, last year’s ACC Championship Game MVP, boasts a stout running game that includes All-American transfer Jaylin Lucas and transfer Roydell Williams.

The Seminoles offense will be without offensive coordinator Alex Atkins, who is currently serving a three-game suspension.

On the defensive side, the pass-rushing duo of Pat Payton and Georgia transfer Marvin Jones Jr. are looking to terrorize the Yellow Jackets backfield. The Seminoles are dangerous across the board as they led the nation in multiple defensive categories, including opponent completion percentage (48.3) and pass breakups (80).

Florida State has won 12-straight conference games. It will be the Seminoles first international game in program history.

The Yellow Jackets’ hopes of stunning Ireland and sending shockwaves back to The States will be determined by their defense. The offense is well on its way.

After an average 7-6 campaign, they led the ACC in rushing and ranked third in the conference in total offense with 424.6 yards per game. It will once again be the Haynes show with starting quarterback Haynes King and go-to rush option Jamal Haynes. King threw for 2,842 yards and 27 touchdowns while also rushing for 737 yards and 10 scores on the ground.

Head coach Brent Key and Georgia Tech welcome back four of its five starters on the offensive line and three of its top four receivers.

The defense was last in the conference in total defense. The job will not be an easy one, but new defensive coordinator Tyler Santucci is up to the task after a strong showing in the same role at Duke.

It’s Georgia Tech’ second appearance at Aviva Stadium. They defeated Boston College 17-14 in 2016.

Florida State leads the all-time series 15-11-1, the Seminoles are 13-4 against Georgia Tech in the regular season games and have scored two victories in both neutral site (ACC Championship) games.
