After venturing into new territory in the Netherlands in 2026, the venue for the 2028 Solheim Cup has been announced and it’s another first as the biennial match will be played at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

Having hosted the Ryder Cup in 2008, Valhalla will join The Greenbrier, Muirfield and Gleneagles as venues to host both the showpiece international team events in golf.

“We are thrilled to be selected to host the 2028 Solheim Cup,” said Valhalla Owner Jimmy Kirchdorfer.

“Valhalla has a history of providing compelling finishes and we are excited to add this event to our championship lore.

“We look forward to welcoming golf fans from around the globe back to our Kentucky home for what promises to be an unforgettable week of competition and camaraderie.”

The Kentucky venue most recently played host to the 2024 PGA Championship where Xander Schauffele made his major breakthrough, and it was the fourth time that the PGA of America held their flagship event at the Jack Nicklaus-designed course with Mark Brooks, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy all past venue winners.

The 2008 Ryder Cup saw Paul Azinger’s United States wrestle the cup back from Nick Faldo’s Europe after three successive defeats – a record streak for Team Europe – and should the United States fail to win at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club this year or at Bernardus in 2026, they will arrive in Valhalla with the longest winless streak in Solheim Cup history.

“Showcasing our extraordinary athletes at venues that have hosted the world’s largest and most prestigious golf tournaments and that are recognizable to fans around the world will continue to elevate the LPGA Tour and the Solheim Cup,” said LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan.

“Hosting the 2028 Solheim Cup at Valhalla Golf Club, with its rich tradition of competitive excellence, exemplifies this commitment.

“Throughout our search, we also saw the passion that Jimmy and the entire team at Valhalla have for women’s golf, the enthusiasm of the local fans and businesses and the desire of state and city leadership to welcome professional women’s sport with open arms.

“Together, we cannot wait to bring the most exciting team competition in women’s golf to Louisville and Valhalla Golf Club.”

The actual date of the 2028 Solheim Cup has yet to be confirmed, but it will be the first time an LPGA sanctioned event has been held in Kentucky in over 50 years.
