Contact lenses, milk filter socks, and bits of wire were just some of the items utilised by the transition year students of Colaiste Bride as they hosted two Junk Kouture fashion shows at the school last week. Involving 120 students, the two shows, one during the day for the younger audiences and one in the evening for friends and family, saw more than 1500 people pack into the school to watch the girls’ creations come to life.
“They’re broken into groups of three and this year we had 43 dresses made from everything and anything you can imagine; bits of wire, contact lenses, milk socks,” said teacher Margo Whelan. “They then stitch it all together, we ask them not to use glue, and wear the items for the fashion show.
“During the intervals, the designers did some line dancing and we had some boys from the CBS join us for some Irish dancing, then we had the final 12 entrants who were accompanied by last year’s winner.”
There were a number of awards handed out on the night and the school is also awaiting news on whether any of its students have qualified for the next round of the national competition which was won by Colaiste Bride in 2021. In the meantime, the winners announced on the night were as follows.
