Ireland players celebrate after qualifying for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 after Saturday’s Six Nations victory over Scotland at the Kingspan Stadium in Belfast. Photo by Ben McShane/Sportsfile

When the gold dust settles on Ireland achieving third in the Women’s Six Nations and qualification for next year’s World Cup, we wonder if any folk high up in Irish rugby will think of sending a voice-note to their comrades in the Six Nations and World Rugby.

It could go something along the lines of: ‘Dear X, seeing as there’s no Centenary Quaich Cup equivalent for the winners of Ireland v Scotland in the women’s competition, any chance we could decide our own reward and play in Tier 2 of WXV this year rather than the radical promotion to Tier 1? Yours etc.’
