A MAJOR US airline has announced a brand new non-stop service to a popular destination.

Delta Air Lines has launched a new Minneapolis route at Dublin Airport this summer.

The American airline will now be offering almost 12,500 weekly seats over the peak season, an increase of 28 per cent from last year.

The airline already runs services from Dublin to Atlanta, Boston and New York.

Deltas Europe Senior Vice President Matteo Curcio has applauded the new flight route in a recent statement.

He said: “Were thrilled to be connecting these two cities and provide customers with even more travel options to the United States.

“Ireland has also been a top choice for American visitors and with a strong demand and a greater number of flights we look forward to bringing more customers to enjoy the Emerald Isle.”

Delta’s Boeing 767-300 will operate the route beginning on the 10th of May with four product services: Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin.

Offering up to 345 daily flights to over 120 destinations, Minneapolis’s largest carrier now provides Irish tourists with more options to explore the US and beyond.

Managing Director of Dublin Airport Gary McLean also welcomed the new service today.

He said: “This new route expands Delta’s services from Dublin airport from three to four major U.S hubs: Atlanta, Boston, New York and now Minneapolis.

“Passengers flying from Ireland’s capital city airport to the United States will now have an expanded choice of destinations, coupled with Delta’s award-winning customer service when flying this summer.”

Delta’s new route WI-FI, a selection of in-flight entertainment and free mobile messaging for all those onboard.

Dublin Airport also offers pre-clearance through American customs and immigration for Irish holidaymakers travelling to the States this summer.

Since it began its services in 1986, Delta has carried over 7 million passengers between Ireland and the United States.

Delta’s routes between both countries has seen increasing demand, with an average load factor of 90% onboard last year.

Delta’s expansion continues as it prepares to reintroduce nonstop flights from Shannon to New York-JFK starting on May 25.

Meanwhile, an Irishman living in Australia has revealed the best thing about finally reaching Dublin Airport after a long journey home.

Ryan Guilfoyle recently got back to Ireland for a visit from Sydney in Australia for the first time in over a year.

While the arrivals area at both terminals are often busy with families eager to be reunited with loved ones, especially over the Christmas period, Ryan revealed it was an interaction before he’d even left airside that had him emotional.

The fitness enthusiast shared a video walking through the airport as he shared the heartwarming Dublin Airport interaction.

He said: “Just after landing back in Dublin after flying home from Sydney for the first time in a year.

“Nothing can beat the feeling of when you walk through passport control and they tell you welcome home.”
