Look, no one should be getting ahead of themselves here, but on Saturday afternoon Cork put a huge dent in Jim McGuinness’ aspirations for an All-Ireland title, while raising expectations of the first Sam Maguire on Leeside since 2010. Of course, that couldn’t happen… or could it?

Well, in the heat of battle on a blistering hot day on the banks of the Lee, with the Ulster Champions humbled and Cork football fans rocking, few would argue with the fact that the current crop of inter-county footballers in red don’t deserve something good to come their way.
