Last week’s column may have been misinterpreted by certain readers as a sleight on the modern style of Gaelic football as opposed to it being a whinge about one of life’s greatest frustrations – poor footballers.

They’re a majority breed. Fellas who either can’t kick the ball properly or don’t know which leg to use when it comes to decision time. They could be mad keen and more committed than any other person in the club, but just missing the vital ingredient – ability. Or they will be a lad who actually considers themselves able and are seemingly unaware of their extreme limitations. Then sometimes they’re just a headcase whose fuse is dodgy as they go from serenity to nuclear explosion in a matter of seconds.
