“The outpouring of support, messages, and calls has been a tremendous source of strength for Tom’s family and girlfriend”

The fundraiser was set up for Tom Eustace who was in Rome for a friend’s wedding when the accident occurred.

The Carlow man has been left “fighting for his life” with life-threatening injuries.

To help cover the medical costs, his family and girlfriend, Miriam, have set up a GoFundMe campaign.

“I’m reaching out to you all on behalf of Tom Eustace, who means the world to me,” Miriam wrote on social media. “My amazing boyfriend is facing some unexpected challenges right now after being involved in an extremely serious accident in Italy and we’ve set up a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs.”

“If you can, please consider donating to support him during this tough time. Every little bit helps, and your support means more than words can express.

“If you can’t donate please share with all your network and pray for his full recovery. He is fighting for his life,” she added.

The young man has a “long road to recovery” ahead of him.

“Tom is an amazing person who has always been there for his friends and family. Now, he needs our help more than ever.

“The road to recovery will be long and demanding, both physically and financially. Medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, and travel expenses to get him back to Ireland are just some of the challenges we are facing,” said the family on GoFundMe.

The family also thanked everyone who sent them messages of support.

“The outpouring of support, messages, and calls has been a tremendous source of strength for Tom’s family and girlfriend. We deeply appreciate every gesture of kindness and support during this difficult time,” they added.

Within hours of it being set up, the GoFundMe page had raised more than over €67,000 as the local Carlow community and beyond come together in support of the young man and his family who have been integral members of the Tullow community.

The money raised will go directly towards medical expenses including surgeries, treatments, transport and hospital stays. Funds will also be needed for rehabilitation and therapy sessions to aid Tom’s recovery and for any unforeseen expenses related to his care and recovery.

In the most recent update the family said: “We can’t put into words the support we have received. The prayers said at today’s mass has really helped us. It was so nice to see familiar faces when we are so far away. Please keep Tom in your prayers as it’s vital at this time.”

Tom was a member of Tullow Rugby Club until a few years ago and is currently a member of Fighting Cocks GFC club in Co Carlow.

“We are shocked and saddened to hear of Tom’s accident during the week. As many of you know, the Eustace family are one of our neighbours and have many family links within the club, along with Tom playing rugby himself,” said a spokesperson from Tullow RFC on Facebook.

“Please donate what you can towards Tom’s recovery fund. As a club, we send our support to Miriam Holden, the Eustace family, wider family members and many friends at this worrying time.

“Sending all our support and strength to Tom”.
