Budding golf stars of the future can enjoy an unforgettable experience at Quinta do Lago this summer as Ryder Cup legend Paul McGinley hosts the Paul McGinley Junior Cup 2024.

Home to three 18-hole championship golf courses – the North, South and Laranjal – the premier Algarve resort is once again showing its commitment to junior golf by welcoming up to 100 golfers between the ages of nine and 18 to take part in two days of competition from Friday, August 23.

McGinley – who famously holed the winning putt in the 2002 Ryder Cup and led Europe to victory as captain in 2014 – will play host as the event is held for a ninth time. This year, players will enjoy two competitive rounds on the South Course and have the option of playing a practice round on Thursday, August 22.

Players – who must all have handicaps – will also get the opportunity to meet McGinley at the presentation evening following the tournament.

Speaking ahead of the event, McGinley said: “I’m really looking forward to hosting another edition of the Paul McGinley Junior Cup at Quinta do Lago.

“It’s always a fun couple of days and I am really looking forward to meeting some of our regular kids, as well as some new ones, to watch the progress they have made over the last 12 months. All new entries would be welcomed!”

Home to the only Paul McGinley Academy in mainland Europe – a space for younger golfers to learn and improve – Quinta do Lago’s continued commitment to junior golf sees it host a range of top junior events across the calendar year.

In November, the resort welcomed 24 of the finest elite junior golfers from Europe for the Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship, sponsored for the fourth time by the 2013 US Open champion.

Winners Annabel Peaford and Morton Bailey joined an illustrious list of previous champions, which includes Rose, his European Ryder Cup-winning colleagues Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick, as well as Ladies European Tour stars Jodi Ewart Shadoff, Melissa Reid and Carly Booth.

The winner of this year’s Paul McGinley Junior Cup will again receive a wildcard to the tournament, scheduled to take place in the autumn.

Registration is now open in five categories (U18, U16, U14, U12 and U10) for the Paul McGinley Junior Cup closes on August 14. For more information, click here.
