A 57-year-old Irish motorcyclist has died after crashing down a 10-metre embankment off a road way in north-west Spain.

Video taken at the scene and published by local G 24 News show rescuers recovering the damaged bike and equipment from a steep bank surrounded by trees and bushes.

It has been reported that the motorcyclist had been travelling with a group on Friday afternoon in the municipality of Pedrafita do Cebreiro in Lucca who did not at first realise what had happened to him.

His friends contacted the 112 emergency service number after they were separated as they feared he had been involved in an accident.

A few minutes later, at around 6pm, a person called 112 to report a motorcyclist who had fallen down a deep slope on the LUP-4504.

The Integrated Emergency Care Centre of Galicia requested a Galicia-061 Health Emergency team who flew in on a medical helicopter from Ourense.

However, it was later confirmed from the scene that the motorcyclist had died.

Rescue teams from the regional fire station of Sarria were also alerted as well as the Civil Guard’s Traffic division

“The motorcyclist fell down a steep slope with a significant incline in the terrain, which is why emergency teams needed to be called in,” a report on G 24 News stated.
