TG4 All-Ireland junior and intermediate final pairings confirmed after dramatic day
In the junior final, to be played at Croke Park on Sunday August 4 (11.45), Fermanagh will play Louth, followed by the intermediate final clash between Leitrim and Tyrone at 1.45.
In today’s semi-finals Leitrim survived a late onslaught from Wexford at Parnell Park to book their place in the intermediate decider.
Seven points behind – 3-8 to 1-7 – with a little over three minutes of normal time left to play, a determined Wexford outfit registered 1-3 without reply in a frantic finale to a pulsating last-four affair.
The Slaneysiders even had a chance at the death to force the game into extra-time, but after an Aoife Cullen free floated wide of the target, Leitrim advanced on a 3-8 to 2-10 scoreline.
They will meet Tyrone in the final after they saw off Ulster rivals Down by 2-11 to 1-11 in a rip-roaring clash in Clones.
The 2018 champions led at the break by four points, 1-6 to 0-5, but were pushed all the way in the second half in what was a very entertaining encounter, with Down once again showing they can mix it with the best in the competition after coming back up from junior level last year.
Louth produced a late surge against Carlow at Parnell Park to advance to the junior championship final against Fermanagh.
A single point adrift inside the final-quarter of an intense tussle, Louth outscored their provincial rivals by 1-5 to 0-1 in the closing moments to ensure their place in the decider on a final scoreline of 2-11 to 0-11.
Fermanagh booked their place in the final with a two-point win over Limerick in a cracking contest at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park in Longford.
There was never much between the sides all throughout the game. The lead changed on a number of occasions but when Limerick needed scores near the end the Fermanagh defence were resolute and stood firm to advance by 2-12 to 2-10.
Next Saturday, at Glenisk O’Connor Park, Tullamore, the senior final pairing will be confirmed.
Cork will take on Galway at 5.0, followed by the meeting of Armagh and Kerry at 7.15, with both games live on TG4.
On Saturday, Laois’s relegation to the intermediate ranks for the 2025 season was confirmed. Kildare got the better of them in the senior championship relegation play-off at Netwatch Cullen Park by 1-10 to 1-8.
Kildare will play in the senior grade again next year.
