The Transport for Ireland (TFI) Local Link Service is part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan, a major national transport initiative developed and funded by the National Transport Authority, with the aim of increasing connectivity and a sustainable method of travel, particularly for people living outside major cities and towns.

Minister Rabbitte said:

Ireland’s heritage is the lifeblood of its identity. Our ancient castles, standing as silent sentinels of history, tell tales of kings and warriors.

The imposing forts, remnants of a bygone era, echo with the footsteps of our ancestors.

And the tranquil monastic sites, imbued with spirituality and wisdom, offer a connection to Ireland’s spiritual heart.

These tangible remnants of our past not only define our landscape but also nourish our sense of belonging, inspiring creativity and fostering a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of Ireland’s cultural heritage.

This is a wonderful and sustainable initiative by the Office of Public Works offering free admission and bringing visitors to iconic sites in rural ireland.

Delighted to see Portumna Castle in my home town featured.
