The new services will take off as part of Cork Airport’s forthcoming winter schedule

Aer Lingus Regional has announced a new, four-times weekly service between Cork Airport and Glasgow.

The year-round route will take off from October 27, using an ATR 72-600 operated by Emerald Airlines – the turboprop aircraft seats up to 72 passengers.

Fares will start from €39.99 each-way, the airport says. Aer Lingus Regional also flies to Glasgow from Donegal Airport (Aer Lingus and Ryanair fly to the Scottish city from Dublin), but the new route is the only such service in Munster.

It adds 30,000 extra seats to Cork’s winter schedule, furthering a post-pandemic recovery that sees it on course to welcome three million passengers this year.

The airport clocked 328,200 passengers in July, 9pc higher than the same month last year. This summer is set to be its busiest ever for overseas travel.

“We plan to deliver double-digit growth again in 2025,” said Tara Finn, its Head of Aviation Business Development & Communications – adding that more route announcements are on the way.

In July, Cork Airport also cut the ribbon on a newly refurbished café and wine bar, Roasted Notes, set in the departures lounge between Gates 4 and 5.

Emerald Airlines is the exclusive operator of Aer Lingus Regional services – it added new routes to Rennes and Brest in France as part of its largest ever summer schedule from Dublin Airport this year.

The airline has also announced a further 20,000 seats on its existing service between Cork and Bristol this winter, with a second daily flight on Friday and Sunday, and a new Saturday flight.

“We love the Aer Lingus Regional brand at Cork Airport,” said Cork Airport’s Managing Director, Niall MacCarthy.

“It now serves two vibrant UK cities, along with the eight destinations served by the Aer Lingus mainline brand.”
