Ulster’s domination of this year’s All-Ireland Minor Football Championship is reflected in the Electric Ireland Minor Star Football Team of the Year, announced today.

Back-to-back All-Ireland champions Derry lead the way with five players featuring on the team, while their vanquished final opponents from Armagh are hot on their heels with four.

Munster kingpins Kerry, who fell narrowly to Derry at the semi-final stage, have three players included while the team is completed by a further three from Connacht champions Mayo, who lost out to Armagh at the last-four stage.

The Mayo trio includes Kobe McDonald – son of the legendary Ciarán – who is chosen in his father’s familiar centre-forward haunt.

There is further individual recognition for Derry’s collective achievement, as James Sargent has been announced at Minor Star Footballer of the Year.

Derry’s skipper and midfield star was a standout player throughout the campaign, scoring a goal in the All-Ireland final as well as being awarded player of the match on the day. Sargent also featured in last year’s team of the year.
