If you’ve been to Dublin lately, you’ll know that the city has new verve. With a booming tech industry, revived public spaces including the historic Docklands area, and a crop of fabulous new hotels, the Irish capital is in the midst of reinvention. Where to bed down? How Voting Works

Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Over 186,000 T+L readers completed the 2024 survey. A total of more than 700,000 votes were cast across over 8,700 properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).

Hotels were classified as either resort hotel, city hotel, inn, or safari lodge based on their location and amenities, and they were specifically rated on the criteria below:

• Location
• Service
• Food
• Value

For each characteristic, respondents could choose a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are averages of these responses.

What Readers Loved

Dublin’s best hotels have a rich sense of place — and history. Take The Shelbourne, Autograph Collection, the No. 3 winner in this year’s survey, which is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. “You cannot go to Dublin and stay anywhere else,” raved one reader about the city’s grand dame hotel, the former stomping grounds of the likes of Peter O’Toole, Jackie Kennedy, and Princess Grace of Monaco. This year’s runner-up, The Westbury (No. 2), has cemented itself as a Dublin icon in its relatively short 40-year history. Readers love its classic style, museum-worthy artwork (look out for paintings by Irish greats including Sir John Lavery and Louis le Brocquy), and unbeatable address between Trinity College and St. Stephen’s Green. “You’d be hard pressed to find a better hotel in Dublin,” gushed one respondent. “The staff are warm and professional and the location is perfect. Merrion Hotel

Spread across a series of Georgian townhouses near Merrion Square Park, Merrion Hotel exudes Old World elegance. Its airy, antiques-filled interiors extend the theme, with a marble column-clad library, a stately drawing room serving afternoon tea, and classically-styled guestrooms, some with views of the hotel’s landscaped gardens. Guests were equally as impressed by the warm Irish hospitality: “The staff is very helpful and is always willing to engage in conversation,” wrote one reader. Travelers also highlighted the hotel’s two-starred Michelin restaurant by Paris-born chef Patrick Guilbaud. “It lives up to its stellar reputation,” raved one respondent.
