James Ryan died in Beaumont Hospital on August 11, one day after suffering head injuries near his home in Balbriggan.

Gardaí confirmed earlier today that they are investigating his death and that a woman has now been arrested on suspicion of murder.

“Gardaí in Balbriggan, Co Dublin are investigating all the circumstances in relation to the discovery of a man with serious injuries found on a residential road in the Balbriggan area in the early hours of Saturday, August 10,” a spokesperson said.

“The man was removed from the scene to Beaumont Hospital by ambulance and later died on Sunday, August 11. A post mortem was subsequently completed and the results of which are not being disclosed for operational reasons.”

Gardaí added: “A woman aged in her 40s was arrested in Balbriggan and is currently being questioned at a garda station in north Dublin under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.”

On his death notice posted earlier on RIP.ie it states that the death has occurred of: “Ryan, (Shey) James, (Balbriggan, and formerly of Shelmalier Road, Eastwall) (peacefully) in Beaumont Hospital on the 11th August 2024”.
