The city centre venue says Dublin is dying from bad management.

A Dublin venue has decided to boycott Culture Night for the second year in a row.

Clockwork Door in Temple Bar is refusing to take part after equipment was stolen from the venue at the event in 2022.

The escape room and social space says one of it’s crew was violently mugged and beaten while waiting for a bus on Aston Quay last week.

Owner, Ciarán Hogan, says despite calls for a plan to rejuvenate the centre and address antisocial behaviour, nothing has changed;

“Unfortunately Dublin has not changed and it hasn’t improved the way I would like it to,” he said.

“If anything it’s gotten worse, and I feel I have to continue this (boycott) to raise awareness that Dublin is having some serious problems and businesses are suffering.”

Ciarán also outlined how a staff member was recently attacked while waiting for a bus home after work.

“One of our guys had just finished off a shift and was waiting on Aston Quay for a bus, when some guys came up, threatened him and took his phone.

“He tried to get it back, but they fought him, they broke a glass bottle and swiped at him and did some damage, thankfully nothing too serious.

“It could have been very, very serious.  It’s just another signal of how bad Dublin is getting that if you wait for a bus for five or ten minutes, the chances of getting mugged are too high.”
