DUBLIN Airport has confirmed that queues are moving well after thousands of passengers faced delays yesterday.

Following a power outage around 7.50am, thousands of passengers faced delays as check-in, security screenings and boarding processes were impacted.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the airport revealed the good news to followers.

The DAA said: “Terminal 2 is moving very well this evening. We thank passengers for their patience and understanding this morning as we faced power issues in T2.

“We apologise to all those caught up and inconvenienced by the incident.”

In a video accompanying the tweet, people can be seen moving through the airport, with no congestion.

A power outage in Terminal Two yesterday morning caused major delays.

It took place around 7.50am, with power being restored a short time later.

DAA yesterday said some delays to services would remain, but advised passengers to travel to the airport as normal.

A spokesperson said in a statement: “Check-in, security screening and boarding processes are all now working but slower than usual due to a large number of passengers needing to be processed. 

“Delays are expected in T2 this afternoon, but flights T1 are not impacted.   

“Passengers due to fly this afternoon are advised to travel to the airport as normal. 

“This morning’s outage (which occurred at around 07.50) in North County Dublin was caused by an under voltage in the ESB Network, which may have caused a control system failure that prevented Dublin Airport’s back-up generator from kicking in, as it always has during previous power outages.

“Our asset management team are working through the cause of this outage to ensure the same failure is not repeated in future.”

ESB Network said that approximately 34,0000 customers in north Dublin were affected by the outage. 

They added: “This included sections of Dublin Airport which briefly lost power earlier this morning but supply has since been fully restored at the site.

“ESB Networks crews mobilised immediately following reports of the fault and are currently investigating the cause while also carrying out the necessary repair works.”

Passengers were being held outside Terminal 2 while power was gradually restored.

Others were escorted from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1.

Passengers praised the staff in the airport in the replies to the latest tweet.

One person said: “Thanks to Ocs staff that went above beyond with this s**t show”.

Another person replied: “Given the chaos we found ourselves in this morning when flying, I can only say that despite arriving at our destination an hour late, the management of the entire disruption was excellent because a situation like this could have been much worse.

“Very good service from the staff.”
