A MAN has been left with a number of injuries after being attacked by his own dog in Dublin.
The shocking incident took place while the owner was walking the dog on a green space on the Ballyshannon Road in the Kilmore area of Dublin 5.
It is understood that the dog “turned” on the man when he was trying to get some plastic out of the canines mouth at around 11am on Sunday morning.
A number of people attempted to assist the man and emergency services were called to the scene.
Gardai have confirmed that the man received “a number of injuries” following the dog attack.
The animal was restrained and transferred into the custody of the dog warden.
In a statement this afternoon, a Garda spokesperson confirmed that investigations into the incident are “ongoing”.
It comes just months after a woman was killed after being attacked by her two dogs at her home in Co Limerick.
An XL Bully was shot dead during the incident by the Regional Armed Support Unit as it continued to pose a threat to emergency workers.
Three other dogs seized from the home where tragic Nicole was mauled to death have also been destroyed.
The four mutts, all restricted breeds — understood to be two XL Bullies and two Staffordshire Bull Terriers — were “extremely aggressive” at the property when first responders arrived.
Nicole had been celebrating her 23rd birthday and had just returned home when the attack took place.
