Dublin City Council have warned that placing clothes on the ground in front of clothes banks are considered illegal dumping.
In an appeal on Facebook, the council shared a photo of a number of clothing items strewn along the ground, before being cleaned up.
Clothes in Dublin can only be donated when put inside clothes banks, with the council saying that the clothes that were along the ground can no longer be donated for recycling. Placing the clothes there, even with the best intentions, is also still considered illegal dumping — with Dublin City Council warning that the person who dumped the clothes is now liable for a €150 fine.
‘Leaving clothes or other items at full textile banks is still illegal dumping and these items will not actually be recycled,’ Dublin City Council wrote on Facebook.
‘The offender is also likely to be issued with a €150 fine. When visiting your local clothes bank only deposit your items when there is room to do so.’
