A father of three was arrested for hurling drunken abuse at people in a “nasty enough incident” in Dublin Airport.

Mark Sheridan (35) was under the influence when he became agitated in the terminal, a court heard.

Judge John Brennan dismissed the case under the Probation of Offenders Act after Sheridan made a €100 charity donation.

Mr Sheridan, a mechanic from Merchant’s Place, Dunlavin, Co Wicklow, pleaded guilty to public intoxication and threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour.

Dublin District Court heard Sheridan was found intoxicated and agitated in Terminal One at 6.55pm last June 30.

He was verbally abusive to people standing nearby and was arrested. He had no previous convictions.

The accused was under the influence at the time, his barrister Vanessa Frawley said.

He had struggled with alcoholism but was taking proactive steps to deal with it and was linking in with addiction services.

He acknowledged there was no excuse for his behaviour on the day.

“It was a nasty enough incident for people travelling in the airport,” Judge Brennan said.

He applied the Probation Act, leaving the accused without recorded convictions.
