FLIGHTS in and out of Weston Airport in Dublin have been cancelled today following a fire last night.
The airport – which has been completely closed today – is a publicly licensed facility located near Lucan in the capital.
At around 10pm last night, a horror blaze broke out near the control room of the airport.
A full investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched this morning.
In a statement this morning, the operations team at the airport confirmed the fire was brought under control by the fire service.
Additionally they confirmed there were no injuries as a result of the blaze.
A spokesperson said: “Weston can confirm there was a small outbreak of fire in a room close to the Control Tower at 22:00 Tuesday night September 24.
“The fire was brought under control by the Fire Service and there were no injuries.
“A full investigation into the cause of the fire will start this morning.”
“The Airport is closed today Wednesday with all flights cancelled.”
The airport is home to the National Flight Centre pilot academy it is also Ireland’s only dedicated executive airport.
Situated just 20 mins outside of the city centre, the airport boasts convenience for travellers away from the constraints of a busy airport.
The airport has been open in the area since the 1930s and has a range of facilities available on site.
This includes a restaurant, executive lounges, aircraft parking and meeting rooms that are available for hire.
The airport welcomes all helicopter traffic as well as business aviation.
DUBLIN AIRPORT ALERT
Separately Dublin Airport have issued an alert for their customers.
The airport has strict rules on leaving vehicles unattended outside the terminals, and it could land you a €140 fine.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) they said: “Don’t become number 276… A total of 275 fixed penalty notices have been issued to drivers parking illegally in the drop-off areas outside our terminals over the past 2 months.
“Reminder: these areas are for dropping off passengers only and are patrolled by Airport Police.”
Cars left unattended will be towed by airport police and will be charged €140 to recover it.
For each day it is not recovered there is a €35 charge.
