This musical phenomenon has finally found its way to Dublin, nine years after it first took the world by storm, and watching it with Irish eyes adds an extra layer of revolutionary sensibility to the mix. Oh look, this is how the Yanks threw off the yoke of the British crown! All the years roll by, including the significant Irish year of 1798.
It’s a jam-packed rap romp through the founding events of the US centred on one of the founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton. It is billed as “the story of America then, told by America now”, a sharp bit of copywriting emphasising the colour-blind casting, the eclectic mix of rap, hip hop, jazz and classic Broadway and the rebellious spirit of the two timeframes.
