Journey times for public transport on the north and south quays in Dublin city centre have fallen by 20 per cent since traffic changes were made last month.

It follows the first meeting of a working group to monitor the first phase of the transport plan, that saw cars banned from Bachelor’s Walk and Aston Quay from August 25th.

It’s part of efforts to stop motorists using the city centre as a through route.

Lord Mayor of Dublin James Geoghegan says Dublin Town also reported an increase in footfall during the month of September.

Representatives from Disability Persons Organisations were also present and proposals were put forward about blue badge holders being able to access routes where bus-gates are present. The National Transport Authority told the meeting it would explore the proposal.
