Revenue officers have seized luxury retail goods worth more than €113,000 in a major crackdown on Ireland’s ‘shadow economy’.
The haul of items included some of the country’s most popular brands such as Adidas, Birkenstock, Balenciaga, Canada Goose, Christian Dior, Nike, ON Cloud, Palm Angels, Prada, and The North Face.
A Revenue spokesman said the goods, which totalled 313 items, were confiscated due to infringements of Intellectual Property Rights.
“These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity. If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295,” he said.

He added: “No further information is available as investigations are ongoing.”
The €113,000 luxury goods haul was part of an overall total of €670,000 worth of seizures made in Dublin last week.
Revenue officers examining parcels at a premises in Dublin also seized approximately 27 kgs of herbal cannabis and 2 kgs of cannabis resin, with a combined value of €550,000, during the course of a number of operations.
Various quantities of other illegal drugs, worth almost €7,000, were also seized.
A revenue spokesman said the drugs were discovered as a result of ‘risk profiling.’

“The illicit drugs were discovered, as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of detector dogs Enzo and Sam, in parcels that originated in the United Kingdom, the USA, Canada and Thailand, and were intended for addresses nationwide.
“The various quantities of other illicit drugs (worth almost €7,000) comprised: 410mls of cannabis oil, 129.3g of butane honey oil, 543g of edibles and 1,538 Diazepam, Zopiclone and Benzodiazepine tablets.”
He added: “No further information is available as investigations are ongoing.”
