The Stena Adventurer now comes kitted out with a ‘family hub’ seating 115 passengers

The new hub on Stena Adventurer includes an interactive wall, gaming corner and digital projections, and can seat up to 115 passengers.

It features “a combination of seating arrangements that encourage both relaxation and active play,” the company said, including lounge space and high tables.

Costs for a family of four travelling by car currently start from €253 each-way on the vessel.

The hub’s gaming area comes kitted out with PlayStation consoles and gaming screens, while a toddler and baby area features soft pillows and a colouring area with drawing tables and bean bags.

Adults can get their coffee fix at a ‘Good to Go’ counter with a “bean-to-cup coffee machine” as well as vending machines with drinks and snacks.

Stena Adventurer has capacity for 1,500 passengers. Together with Stena Estrid, the company sails four times daily between Dublin and Holyhead, with sailings taking around three hours and 15 minutes.

Like Brittany Ferries and Irish Ferries, Stena has been investing in upgrading its ships in recent years, introducing more pet-friendly cabins, upgraded spas and retail, for example.

Last month, however, the company said it would withdraw the Stena Vision from its Rosslare-Cherbourg route from the end of October. The decision, seen as a blow to Rosslare Europort and Co Wexford, follows what it called a “strategic route review”.

Stena Adventurer’s new family hub also includes a baby changing room, service stations, and fun touches like an interactive wall, carpets featuring patterns of games like hopscotch.

The idea behind the hub was to create a space where children could play while parents relax nearby, said Stena Line Travel Commercial Manager Irish Sea, Orla Noonan.

Prior to its launch, “a group of young people spent several hours thoroughly assessing the new equipment while the grown-ups tried out the comfy seating and treats from the coffee counter,” she said.

“Whether it’s the interactive features, the furnishings, or the cozy café, every element is crafted to provide a holistic experience for both body and mind, and we’re thrilled that our ‘testers’ have given the hub the thumbs up.”
