TRIBUTES have been paid to a “beloved and devoted” south Dublin school principal following his “unexpected” death.
James Docherty had been the principal of Willow Park School, a junior school on the grounds of Blackrock College in south Dublin, since 2016.
The well-respected educator was previously a teacher at the school before moving into his role as principal.
The “heartbroken” school shared the news on their website to students and families.
The tribute reads: “We are heartbroken to share with you the news of the unexpected passing of our beloved and devoted Principal James.
“Our thoughts and love are with his loving wife and cherished family.
“Words cannot express grief at times like this. James was the kindest of men and tried to solve everyone’s problems.
“James will forever have a massive place in the heart of Willow Park.
“May his journey ahead bring him peace.”
Originally from Scotland, Docherty held a BA in primary school teaching from the University of Glasgow before receiving a masters in leadership and management at Trinity College Dublin.
He is survived by his wife and young family.
A welcome address from the principal that is posted on the schools website that states that “Willow Park is more than just a school.”
Docherty wrote: A Willow education provides boys with a moral compass for life. Our motto Fides et Robur (meaning faith and strength) pervades Willow daily life, as our pupils prepare for the joys and challenges ahead.”
TRAGIC DEATH
Separately, a fundraiser has been launched to support the family of an Irish man who died in a workplace accident in Australia.
Barry Breslin, 35, died after being struck by an excavator and sustaining serious head injuries while working in Perth on Thursday.
The father-of-one, who hailed from Kilcar village in Co Donegal but had been living down under for a number of years, was rushed to hospital but sadly passed away a short time later, according to local news outlets.
A fundraiser has now been launched to support Barry’s fiance, three-year-old son and heartbroken friends and family in Ireland and Australia.
Thomas Traynor of Car Hub Australia, started the fundraiser on GoFundMe with a Kickstarter donation of over €12,000 ($20,000AUD) to support Barry’s family in this tragic time.
