South Dublin County Council has released a video to highlight the benefits of its D24 Neighbourhood active travel project.
The new video posted to social media highlights how the project has improved safety and increased mobility options. It features a resident who uses their wheelchair on the new cycle path network, residents who cycle and a local school principal.
When reviewing the changes at the time built in the area earlier this year, IrishCycle.com reported that the speed and scale of some of the changes should be the envy of people living in most areas of the country. Although it was also covered how there is still an overreliance on mixing cycling and walking in shared spaces.
Stephen Cullen, an executive engineer with the council, said: “On a 7-day average, the number of cars over the posted speed limit on Whitestown Way is down 50%.”
The project, which is a Pathfinder project, was funded by the Government via the National Transport Authority.
