Georgia Tech’s matchup with Florida State to kick off the college football season in Dublin was billed by title sponsor Aer Lingus as “More than a Game” — and that description held up for Georgia boosters.

Much as they had when GT first participated in the matchup eight years ago, companies, politicians, universities, economic developers, diplomats and tech associations all used the game as an occasion to deepen the state’s ties with Ireland, already strong from a multidimensional partnership in investment, trade and education.

Global Atlanta was along for the ride, intersecting during our reporting trip with various organizations as they pursued their own complementary agendas. We caught up with…

  • Enterprise Ireland on a Sports Tech mission
  • Georgia Tech president’s meetings at Trinity College
  • Mayor Andre Dickens and Invest Atlanta at Guinness Enterprise Center in Dublin
  • Metro Atlanta Chamber at the headquarters of Stripe
  • Georgia Department of Economic Development and Savannah in Wexford
  • State legislators headed to Belfast

To look back on the trip and see what’s ahead for the Georgia-Ireland relationship, join Global Atlanta, IDA Ireland and others for debriefing happy hour.
