Hollywood star Oscar Isaac becomes honorary patron of Dublin acting school

Hollywood star Oscar Isaac has backed a Dublin acting school known globally for its award winning alumni.

The esteemed actor, beloved for his iconic performances in films such as Dune and Inside Llewyn Davis, is set to become the first honorary patron of Bow Street Academy for Screen Acting.

Having recently wrapped filming on Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Isaac lauded the Irish academy’s dedication to ‘screen craft’ in a heartfelt speech to existing students.

The monumental announcement was made at the institution’s graduation showcase, which took place at the Light House Cinema in Dublin on Monday.

With Ireland’s top directors, agents, casting directors and industry professionals in attendance, the academy’s Artistic Director Shimmy Marcus shared an inspiring message from the Star Wars actor.

‘I am very excited to become an honorary patron of Bow Street Academy for Screen Acting. Their approach to screen craft is one which I identify with and fully endorse. I wish the school and all of their graduates nothing but the best for the future.’

Among the many guests in attendance at the graduation ceremony were Kin’s Maria Doyle Kennedy, Thomas Kane Byrne and Baz Black, Tadhg Murphy (Time Bandits) writers and directors including Oscar Nominee Naomi Sheridan, Ian Fitzgibbon, Conor McMahon, Casting Directors Maureen Hughes, Shauna Griffith, Agents Morris Epstein and Rachel Byrne (Lisa Richards), Susannah Norris, Tom O’Sullivan, Stephanie Broocks, Beibhinn Jones, Kerry Golding, and Gerry O’Brien (President of Irish Equity).

The endorsement comes at a monumental time for the esteemed school, who are set to move from their longstanding venue to a new state-of-the-art campus in Rathmines at the end of the year.

Bow Street’s annual graduation showcase features work from those departing the full-time programme, with a number of big Irish names having passed through their doors.

The academy’s notable alumni include Barry Keoghan, Seana Kerslake, Nika McGuigan, Niamh Algar, Niamh McCormack and many more.
