Community College expands AEN rooms

Minister for Special Education and Inclusion Hildegarde Naughton with pupils and staff in Greenhills

Minister for Special Education and Inclusion Hildegarde Naughton inaugurated a new AEN (Additional Educational Needs) class at Greenhills Community College.

Last week the school launched newly developed spaces dedicated to children with additional educational needs, including three classrooms, a kitchen, a sensory room, a locker room, a reading room, and a games room.

“We are thrilled to expand our AEN offerings with these state-of-the-art rooms,” said Principal Noirin Lannon. “This initiative reinforces our ethos of care, respect, and equality, ensuring that all our students thrive in an inclusive and supportive environment.”

“The launch marks an exciting new chapter for the school, which has been a pillar of the local community since its founding in 1970.”

Students with additional needs in Greenhills are usually integrated into mainstream classes, while also being provided with support tailored to their individual needs.

With after school initiatives such as “Cooking for Life” the school expanded its dedication to life skills development beyond academic achievement.

After the inauguration, Minister Naughton toured the new facilities, met with students and unveiled a plaque to commemorate the occasion.

She delivered a speech celebrating the school’s commitment to inclusive education and the well-being of all students.

Greenhills Community College is an all-boys post-primary school, under the patronage of Dublin and Dun Laoghaire ETB.

Representatives of the DDLETB also attended the event, along with parents, students, and local community members.
