Gardaí have arrested a man following a car hijacking incident in Dublin this morning.
At approximately 2.45am on the Belgard Road, Dublin 24, a man was stopped in his car at traffic lights in the Clondalkin area when he was approached by another man brandishing a knife.
“This man entered the vehicle and forced the driver to drive to another location. The driver subsequently made his escape from the car and reported the incident to gardaí,” a garda spokesperon said.
Gardaí located the car unoccupied and the suspect, a man aged in his 30s, was arrested nearby.
The man is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 in a Garda Station in West Dublin.
Gardai said investigations are ongoing.
An Garda Síochána appealed to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.
Any person who was travelling on the Belgard Road or the Clondalkin area this morning between 2am and 3am is asked to contact investigating gardaí.
Additionally, road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
