The Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has appealed for information following the discovery of a dead horse in Dublin in what was described as an “extremely barbaric” condition.
DSPCA inspectors responded to a call it received yesterday that a horse had been dumped in a wooded area in south county Dublin.
On their arrival at the scene, they discovered the partial remains of a dead horse in a large yellow skip bag.
The horse’s four legs had been “removed intentionally” and were found in a second smaller skip bag, in what was described as “a horrific scene.”
The animal rescue service said the discovery was “one of the most distressing and upsetting” calls its inspectors have had to deal with.
A spokesperson for the DSPCA said in order to place the horse in the area where it was found, “a vehicle of some sort, possibly a grab truck, would have been required due to the weight and size of the body.”
The horse is microchipped.
A public appeal for information has been issued to anyone who may have seen “a grab type van or truck” in the area over the last few days.
The DSPCA spokesperson said: “The manner in which this poor horse was left shows a total lack of respect and empathy for life.”
Anyone with any information that would support the enquiries is asked to email inspectors@dspca.ie and the animal rescue service said all information will be treated with complete confidentially.
