Dublin Airport took to X to warn Irish passengers of expected cancellations amid Storm Ashley.

They said: “Weather conditions have led to some airlines cancelling a small number of flights this morning.

“As always, passengers seeking updates regarding a specific flight should contact their airline directly.”

In an update later this morning, Dublin Airport added that Storm Ashley is having an impact on flight operation throughout Ireland and the UK today.

A spokesperson said: “Some airlines have cancelled a small number of flights in and out of Dublin Airport, while others are subject to delays.

“Winds are forecast to remain strong throughout the afternoon and evening, which could cause further impact.”

Aer Lingus flights to Donegal and Paris have already been cancelled.

It is also understood that Ryanair flights to Edinburgh, Naples, London and La Rochelle are among those with expected delays as the ferocious weather takes grip.

Aer Lingus warned that there may be “potential disruption to/from Ireland” to flights today as the storm batters.

A spokesperson said: “We are aware of the impending arrival of Storm Ashley and potential travel disruption to/from Ireland on Sunday 20th October.

“Any impacted passengers will receive notification. Please check your flight status for the latest updates.”

Aer Lingus flights to Glasgow and Leeds Bradford this afternoon have also been cancelled.

In the capital, Dublin City Council have closed boardwalks and carparks.

They said: “In preparation for Storm Ashley and predicted high tides, Dublin City Council has closed the carparks at Clontarf and will also be closing the boardwalk at Eden Quay, the Lower Dodder flood gates and the car parks at Sandymount. Our staff will monitor this event until it subsides.”

‘STRONG WINDS’

Storm Kathleen has already made landfall with weather warnings in place for the entire country.

Met Eireann forecasters have warned “don’t risk your life for an Instagram photo” as Storm Ashley hits.

Meteorologist Mark Bowe said there’s currently a yellow wind warning in place for the entire country until Monday 3am.

He said: “That’s going to see some very strong winds, and that’s coupled with some high seas and some very high tide.

“So we’re likely to see some very large waves and some coastal flooding, especially across our western counties.

“Now, on top of this, we’ve also got an orange warning out across Clare, Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Kerry, Leitrim and Sligo.”

The orange alert, in place from 10am to 8pm today, will cause coastal flooding as well as damage to trees and power lines.

Drivers are warned there will be very difficult and dangerous travelling conditions.

A status yellow rain warning was been issued until 9am for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry and Waterford.

As Storm Ashley arrives today, it will bring “gale force southwest winds and severe and damaging gusts”.

There will be sunshine and showers to start but it will become cloudier by the afternoon.

Showers will push into the northwest and spread southeastwards, they will be “heavy or thundery at times”.

And coastal flooding is “likely due to very high tides”.
