Danish home retail brand JYSK is to open a new “dark store” warehouse in Dublin, which will reduce delivery times for customers.

The “dark store” is not a store customers can visit, but a small warehouse with racking and shelves only for online shopping.

It will have the full assortment of products which can be seen in the retailer’s shops, plus an additional assortment, which is ready to be delivered directly to customers across the country.

JYSK said this will help significantly to reduce the delivery times to customers, as they will get their deliveries from the dark store located near them instead of the distribution centre in Denmark.

From November on, online customers here will get their deliveries from the new dark store.

The dark store, which is around 8,000 square meters, will also house a new head office for JYSK in Ireland. The company said that 14 new jobs will be created with a department manager, team leaders and several warehouse employees.

JYSK opened its first store in Ireland in 2019 and it now has 25 stores and 289 employees here.

“When we are present in a country, and we want to shorten the delivery time, a dark store is a great option for us. This helps us to attract new customers and create a more seamless experience,” Ole Thomsen, Executive Vice President of Logistics at JYSK, said.

“Ireland and the UK are top in JYSK with the highest online sales shares, so we want to bring an even greater offer with shorter delivery times and a bigger assortment to our customers in this market. This will also help us attract new customers and create a more seamless experience,” Roni Tuominen, Country Director for JYSK United Kingdom & Ireland, said.

“We will be able to significantly reduce our lead time, which will bring us even closer to customers. This is very important to continue our growth in Ireland and will also create new jobs,” he added.

A dark store is also being planned in Morocco to open with the first JYSK stores there in spring 2025.
