The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said it has opened an investigation into suspected breaches of competition law by Dublin Port Company.

The CCPC is responsible for enforcing and promoting compliance with competition, consumer protection and product safety law in Ireland.

It said the investigation concerns suspected anti-competitive practices in the provision of port infrastructure at Dublin Port and/or the provision of port towage services at Dublin Port.

The CCPC said these services are crucial for the safe navigation and operation of vessels, and therefore for the efficiency of trade and transport in the region.

It said that as the investigation is ongoing, the CCPC is not in a position to provide any further information at this time.

In a statement, Dublin Port Company said it acknowledges the investigation initiated by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission in relation to its port towage services.

“We are fully committed to assisting the CCPC throughout the investigation,” it said.

“As this is an ongoing matter, Dublin Port Company will not be making any further comment at this time. We remain dedicated to upholding the highest standards of service and compliance across all our operations,” it added.

Last month, the competition regulator opened an investigation into suspected breaches of competition law by healthcare software company Clanwilliam.

The CCPC said the probe related to the provision of Electronic Patient Record (EPR) software and services such as electronic referrals and text messaging.
