A MAJOR security rule reminder has been issued to all passengers planning to travel over the “busy” Halloween period.

This weekend is the Halloween bank holiday, meaning that many people have opted to take advantage of the time off to enjoy a short getaway.

And those who are planning to pass through Dublin Airport on their travels have been reminded of the liquid allowance at airport security.

Dublin Airport took to X, formerly Twitter, to share the message with followers.

They said: “Flying out of Dublin Airport soon?

“A reminder that all liquids being taken through security screening in hand luggage must be 100ml or under.

“Prepare in advance to help ensure a hassle-free journey through security screening.”

The organisation also shared a helpful graphic that breaks down the rules of bringing liquids through security.

In Terminal One, they reminded passengers that all liquids, gels, and aerosols in hand luggage must be under 100mls.

And the liquids must fit inside a clear one litre bag.

Dublin Airport also reminded travellers that only one litre bag is permitted per person, and that passengers should be prepared to take electronics out of their carry on.

However in terminal two, the rules are slightly different.

All liquids, gels, and aerosols must be under 100mls and in a clear bag, but there is no limit on how many clear bags a passenger can bring.

And in Terminal Two, passengers can leave their electronics in their carry-on bag.

A helpful tip is that many chemists and even some fashion retailers such as Penneys sell 100ml bottles for travelling purposes.

Liquids can be transferred from their original packaging into the smaller bottles to be taken through security hassle-free.

The announcement came after airport bosses warned those planning to travel that the number of people passing through the airport this October bank holiday is set to be higher than usual.

They are expecting almost 410,000 passengers between Friday and Monday.

Friday is expected to be the busiest day at the airport, with 110,000 passengers arriving and departing from on that day alone.

Passengers travelling over the weekend are advised to arrive at the airport two hours before a short haul flight and three hours before a long haul flight.

Director of Communications at daa, the operator of Dublin Airport, Sarah Ryan said: “This weekend marks the start of the school mid-term holiday, which will give many families an opportunity to embark on autumn getaways overseas.

“Many tens of thousands of tourists are set to fly into Ireland this weekend too, including Lions rugby fans ahead of their match against Leinster in the Aviva Stadium on Saturday evening.”

Sarah also said that airport car parking is in high demand due to the busy nature of the weekend.

She advised that those heading to the airport take public transport or get a lift to the door to avoid disappointment at the car park.

She added: “We look forward to welcoming all passengers travelling this weekend and wish everyone a pleasant trip.”
