A talented young Dubliner, recognised for her impressive achievements in the British National Series on the BMX track, was recently honoured by the Mayor of South Dublin.
Carly Hayes (15), from Tallaght, began BMX racing at just five-years-old and has been competing in the UK and Europe since she was six.
Currently, Carly is the Leinster Champion, Irish BMX Champion, 2024 British Champion, and is ranked third in Europe, with multiple wins in the British National Series over the past few years.
She trains between four and five times a week..
Speaking at the reception, Mayor of South Dublin Councillor Baby Pereppadan said: “To have achieved what she has is a testament to her hard work and dedication, and to the support from her coaches and family, who tell me of her great passion for the sport and her commitment to travelling to the UK and Europe every year—not only to race but also to meet up with friends.
“We would like to express our admiration for Carly’s achievements at the highest level of her sport.
“We will be cheering her on for many years to come, as I am told her plan is to keep progressing with hopes of competing in the Olympics in 2032.”
Ms Hayes, who currently attends Tallaght Community School, visited the Mayor of South Dublin to be honoured for her achievements.
She was joined at the reception by friends, family, Councillors Patrick Holohan and Alan Edge, and also brought along her BMX bike and British Championship Trophy.
