Dylan O’Rourke, dressed in a light grey tracksuit and runners, did not address the court and spoke only to his barrister
A MAN charged over the seizure of a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition in Dublin has been remanded in custody after stalling his bail application yesterday.
Dylan O’Rourke, 28, of St Vincent’s Street flats, Dublin 8, was charged under the Firearms Act for unlawfully possessing a side-by-side double-barrelled sawn-off shotgun and four rounds of ammunition “in suspicious circumstances”.
He was allegedly caught with the weapon and cartridges on Saturday at Vincent Street South.
Mr O’Rourke was taken to Kevin Street Garda station, where he “made no reply” when charged.
The accused, who has yet to enter a plea, was handed a copy of the charge sheet and brought to appear before Judge Michael Ramsey at Dublin District Court yesterday.
Garda Matthew Kennefick outlined the evidence of arrest, charge and caution and added that he intended to object to bail.
Mr O’Rourke, dressed in a light grey tracksuit and runners, did not address the court and spoke only to his barrister.
As a contested bail hearing was about to commence, Kevin McCrave BL informed the judge that his client did not wish to proceed at this stage but would do so at his next hearing.
The court heard the accused had been employed at the time of the alleged offence, but his occupation was not stated.
Legal aid was granted after the judge noted from counsel that Mr O’Rourke had provided a statement of his means, was “at risk”, and is now going into prison on remand.
Judge Ramsey adjourned the case until Friday, when the accused is to make a bail application.
Trial venue directions from the DPP on whether the case will stay in the District Court or go to a higher level with tougher sanction options have yet to be given.
