From questions in online forums to TikTok Live streamers looking around Parnell Square, there’s been some confusion this evening over Dublin’s Halloween Parade. Unfortunately, people have been left “ghosted” by the phantom parade which seems to have all been part of an ad-revenue scam.

I’m not linking to the website in question (My Spirit Halloween) because it will just benefit the website from a Search Engine Optimisation point of view and keep it higher in the rankings. The website likely uses AI to create content quickly and cheaply where opportunities are found. Unfortunately for Dubliners, Dublin was picked this year.

Why would someone do this? Well, running a website is relatively cheap. For niche seasonable topics like Halloween, it can be easier to rank pages. Particularly when Dublin doesn’t even have a Halloween parade but people might expect one, both down to our enjoyment of parades in general and Ireland being Halloween’s spiritual home.

The parade was promised to start from Parnell Square before following a route that ended up in Temple Bar. To be fair, this should have been a massive red flag given events rarely, if ever, go through Temple Bar given the tight nature of the streets and how Dame Street offers superior space.

So I’m writing this article in the hope that people turning to Google can find this and save themselves a trip.

Instead, you should check out official sources of information in the City, including Dublin City Council’s website. Here you’ll find the following list of events.

  • The Big Scream NEIC Halloween Community Festival 2024
  • Paranormal Investigation at the Mansion House
  • Dublin’s Liberties Community-Led Halloween Extravaganza
  • Crumlin Halloween Festival
  • ‘Booh! Cabra/Glasnevin Halloween Festival’
  • Finglas Fright Night Halloween Festival, Finglas Civic Centre, Mellowes Road
  • Darndale Together After Dark
  • D10 Halloween
  • Ballymun Otherworld Festival
  • Dockers & Demons

Stay frosty when planning nights out and take your news from official websites while looking out for
