Skeletal remains have been discovered at a Dublin building site in Dublin 8, where the construction of more than 540 social and cost-rental apartments is set to take place.
Gardaí have confirmed they are investigating all circumstances surrounding the discovery of skeletal remains at the site on Donore Avenue.
The remains, believed to be historical in nature, were found on the morning of November 5. The Coroner’s Office has been notified, with investigations ongoing.
Permission has been granted for the construction of over 540 social and cost-rental apartments on the former St Teresa’s Gardens site in Dolphin’s Barn.
The Land Development Agency (LDA) will lead the project, which includes a 15-storey building, providing housing primarily for low and middle-income earners.
Originally planned as a larger development, the proposal was scaled back after opposition.
The site has a long history of delays, with earlier redevelopment efforts halted due to the property market collapse and hazardous waste concerns.
Gardaí have indicated that initial findings suggest the skeletal remains are historic and “not believed to be related to any ongoing investigation”.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances following the discovery of skeletal remains at a building site at Donore Avenue in Dublin 8 this morning, Tuesday November 5.
“The Coroner’s Office has been notified, and investigations are ongoing.”
