“We are treating both, the taking of the cars and the robbery incidents very seriously”

In an episode of Crimecall broadcast on RTÉ last night, Detective Shane Lavery outlines how it was 6.30am on the morning of September 19 when two suspects were caught on camera as they approached a house on the outskirts of the village.

“They climb over a fence at the property before making their way towards the house,” Detective Lavery recounts.

“Off camera, one suspect gains entry to the house and two sets of keys, for two vehicles, a silver Audi TT 2015 and a black Suzuki Swift 2012, which were parked outside, were taken.

“The two suspects then return to the driveway and one man, in a black hoodie, gets into the Audi while the other, in a red and white top, gets into the Suzuki.”

Both vehicles then drive away and make their way to Swift’s Grove in the Clonshaugh area of Dublin.

A few hours later, at around 12.40pm that afternoon, the Audi is then used in a robbery.

The car is seen on CCTV being driven down the Harmonstown Road in Raheny and continuing on to Brookwood Rise.

The car does a “loop of the area” before returning to Brookwood Rise.

“The car pulls up here and two men leave the vehicle,” Detective Lavery states. “One man is wearing a camouflage top and the other is wearing a red top.”

CCTV footage captures both men running into the shop.

“The man in the red hoodie jumps across the counter and fills a plastic bag with cigarettes and tobacco,” Detective Lavery continues.

“The man in the camouflage top is seen using a wheel brace to bang on the clear perspex screen of the shop while threatening a staff member and demanding cash from the till.

“The suspect in the red top uses a knife in an attempt to open the till. He then throws the till across the shop counter to the man in the camouflage top.”

Both men leave the shop with the cash and tobacco and run back to the car.

They make their way onto Gracefield Avenue and then towards Brookwood Avenue and eventually onto the Howth Road.

By this time, gardaí had received several phone calls about the Audi being driven erratically on the Howth Road.

The last time it is seen on CCTV, it is turning left in Raheny village and onto Station Road.

“We are treating both, the taking of the cars and the robbery incidents very seriously,” Detective Lavery said. “We would like anyone with information on either to please come forward.”

Detective Lavery said the black Suzuki had been found abandoned in the Swift’s Grove area of Clonshaugh

He gave details of the Audi TT, which is silver and has the registration number 151 D 55471. The black Suzuki’s registration is 12 D 44631.

Both vehicles were recovered by gardaí, he added, and returned to the owners.
