An Albanian crime group supplying drugs in the west Dublin area were the targets of a major operation which saw over 20 cars and €400,000 in cash seized.

The Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) carried out a series of raids earlier today during which the seizures were made with electronic devices and a quantity of drugs also seized.

Today’s operation involved 130 personnel carrying out searches at 14 different locations in west Dublin as part of ongoing into the group’s activities.

In a statement this evening, gardaí said the group is involved in the trafficking of controlled drugs in west Dublin.

The Sunday World has learned that the targets of the operation are an Irish-based Albanian gang, believed to be responsible for flooding the Dublin 15 area with drugs.

“During the course of this operation 23 vehicles along with €400,000 in cash and frozen funds were seized,” gardaí said in a statement.

“A quantity of suspected cannabis herb, electronic devices and assorted documentation were also seized.”

CAB officers were assisted by gardaí from DMR West, the Emergency Response Unit, the Armed Support Unit, the Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit and the Customs Dog Unit.

A garda spokesperson added: “This operation marks a significant development in CAB’s ongoing proceeds of crime investigation.”
