Travel chaos as multiple collisions block Dublin’s busy M50 motorway

DUBLIN commuters are facing delays this morning amid “heavy” traffic following a series of collisions.

And travel bosses have issued a “reduce speed” warning as congestion has blocked several lanes in both directions of the M50 this morning.

A collision the on M50 southbound at Junction 7, Lucan affected lane 3 just before 8am this morning.

However the incident was cleared just over 20 minutes later allowing traffic to flow again.

A second collision occurred going northbound on the M50 between Junction 9 and Junction 7 affected the aux lane.

And southbound, another M50 collision caused a major disruption at the slip at Junction 4, Ballymun.

The 8.35am collision mainly affected the hard shoulder.

Both incidents have been cleared in the last few minutes.

And elsewhere on the M50 a breakdown added to traffic chaos this morning in the middle lane between Junction 3, M1/M50 and – Junction 4, Ballymun in the southbound direction with the breakdown swiftly cleared.

The latest collision on the M50 has affected lanes one, two and three southbound.

The traffic accident occurred at 9.08am this morning between Junction 5, Finglas and Junction 6, Blanchardstown.

And posting to social media the M50 traffic account advised traffic is “heavy” on approach.

They said: “Collision S’bound between J5 Finglas and J6 Blanch blocking the right, middle and left lanes. Emergency services are on scene. Traffic heavy on approach.”

And amid congestion on the major motorway Transport Infrastructure Ireland issued a safety alert to motorists.

They said: “Some delays to your journey may occur. When approaching the congestion location, reduce your speed and drive with caution.”

The delays come ahead of further disruption for motorists as the Dublin Tunnel is set to close from 9.30pm tonight northbound.

The tunnel will remain close until 4.30am tomorrow morning.

And yesterday morning Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene of a single vehicle collision along with firefighters and paramedics from Tallaght.

The team shared an image of the car that had flipped in the middle of the road.

Alongside the image Dublin Fire Brigade wrote: “Firefighter/Paramedics from Tallaght Fire Station responded to this single vehicle road traffic collision earlier this morning along with our colleagues in @AmbulanceNAS.

“We regularly work in partnership with other agencies.”
