THE Green Party have been hammed in the election with the party set to loss all their Dail seats.

And during some analysis by Virgin Media two of the party’s TDs were dealt a brutal quip by the TV hosts.

In the clip political correspondent Gavan Reilly gave viewers an overview of the count so far.

Analysing the results of the Dublin Rathdown and Dublin South-West count, he highlighted an interesting predicament.

They forecasted that former Green Party deputy leader Catherine Martin and her husband Francis Noel Duffy were both set to lose their seats in Dublin Rathdown and Dublin South-West.

Mr Reilly said: “We’re still awaiting our first count here, but the tally, I think, is quite remarkable.

“So here we have a situation where another green candidate, Frances Noel Duffy, who, as it happens, by the way, is the husband of Catherine Martin in the neighbouring constituency – one of the top five last time.

“Now, not even in the first green he’s 13th in a race of 16, which is a really remarkable fall from grace.”

Broadcaster Colette Fitzpatrick noted: “That’s two jobs gone in that household.”

Gavan replied: “Two jobs gone in that house.”

He continued: “Here’s another note, Colin Brophy, who is the likely is to become the lead Fine Gael candidate – may prospectively even bring in a second one depending on how things go.

“He’s going to be absolutely safe. And if we go back to the other constituency of Dublin- Rathdown, the person who was on that map immediately behind Neil Richmond is Maeve O’Connell, who is the wife of Colin Brophy.

Moment Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin reelected in 2024 General Election

“Last time around we had a husband and wife TD, Dublin- Rathdown and Dublin- South West.

“This time around, we were going to have another husband and wife pair in exactly the same constituencies between two different people entirely.”

Meanwhile, Micheal Martin declared he has a “clear route back to government” as Fianna Fail aim to become the most popular party in the country.

Fianna Fail became the most popular party in the country again after taking 21.1 per cent of the first preference vote, with Fine Gael at 20.7 and Sinn Fein in third at 19.7 per cent.
