Flights delayed in Irish airports as Storm Darragh hits with red alerts issued

NUMEROUS flights have been delayed as Storm Darragh hits Ireland – amid “extremely dangerous” red weather warnings.

A number of flights have been delayed with some cancellations in both Dublin Airport and Cork Airport this evening.

Some of the arrivals flights delayed in Dublin Airport currently include Frankfurt, London, Turin, Bodrum, Glasgow, Leeds, Seville, Lanzarote, Liverpool, Lisbon, Budapest and Naples.

Airlines with delayed flights today include Ryanair, Aer Lingus, Hisky and Air France.

Air France’s flight from Paris to the Dublin has been cancelled due to Storm Darragh.

There are also some arrivals flights delayed which currently include Manchester, London and Faro in Cork Airport.

KLM flight from Cork to Amsterdam at 6am has also been cancelled.

Ryanair chiefs warned earlier today of “potential disruption” due to Storm Darragh.

They issued a message to passengers through their website this morning.

It reads: “Potential disruptions to/from Ireland (Fri 06 Dec) due to Storm Darragh.

“Affected passengers will be notified and any passengers travelling to/from Ireland on Fri 06 Dec should check their Ryanair app for the latest updates on their flight.

“We regret any inconvenience caused to passengers by Storm Darragh, which is outside of Ryanair’s control and affects all airlines operating to/from Ireland on Fri 06 Dec.”

WEATHER WARNINGS

The weather warnings were put in place from 10pm this evening until 3am on Saturday morning.

Experts are warning of fallen trees, damage to power lines, dangerous travelling conditions and structural damage to temporary structures.

The entire country is under a status orange wind warning from 8pm today until 10am tomorrow.

Met Eireann forecaster said: “Storm Darragh will bring very wet and windy weather today.

“Rain will spread across the country from the west and will be heavy at times, possibly causing localised flooding.

“Some sleet is possible on northern hills and there is a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

“Strong and gusty south to southeast winds will develop through the morning and will become very strong and gusty south to southwest in the afternoon and evening.

“Highest temperatures of 8 to 13C.”

‘DAMAGING GUSTS’

Forecasters also warned of “damaging gusts” and localised flooding in many areas tonight.

They said: “Storm Darragh will bring wet and very windy or stormy conditions tonight.

“Winds will turn northwesterly and will become very strong, with some severe and damaging gusts, reaching storm force at times near coasts.

“There will be widespread rain at first, heavy at times and possibly causing localised flooding.

“The rain will gradually clear eastwards through the night and will be followed by frequent showers, but will continue in the northeast and east into Saturday morning.

“Some sleet is possible on northern hills. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5C.”
