YET another popular Dublin cafe is set to close its doors for good just days before Christmas.
Bliss Cafe, located in St Dominic’s Shopping Centre in Tallaght, has announced that it will cease trading on December 21.
The cafe, a favourite spot for locals, has been in business for seven years.
Owner Joan shared the devastating news of the closure in an emotional social media post, describing it as “one of the most difficult decisions” she’s ever had to make.
She explained: “Over the last couple of years I have found it very difficult to cover costs.
“I have got to this point by the skin of my teeth. It’s just not sustainable to keep going.
“I’m devastated to lose it all. I have put my heart and my soul in to running Bliss Café.
“I have grafted so so hard and anyone that is close to me knows how much I sacrificed and how much this hurts.”
Joan expressed gratitude to her loyal customers and staff who have supported Bliss Café throughout the years.
She said: “I am so grateful to have met so many wonderful people and grateful to the local community whose constant support and business allowed me to trade this long.
“It’s been a journey filled with laughter, tears, messing and also panic stations when I have been under pressure.”
She encouraged customers to visit in the final weeks, saying: “Please come in to us and say goodbye.
“We have two weeks left of trading and we want to finish on a high.”
Joan highlighted the challenges facing small businesses, with many closures this year due to soaring costs.
She wrote: “So many small businesses have closed this year and the main reason is costs.
“Please support your local businesses in your community.
“The big chains will survive; it’s the small businesses that bring something extra special to your community.
“They have to work harder. They sacrifice a lot more. There is more love and care put in to their business.”
Reflecting on her journey, Joan said she was proud of what she achieved, having started Bliss Café from scratch in 2017.
She said: “I built a good business with a good reputation. Never dropped my standards. Gave it 100 per cent.
“We have a lot of loyal customers who have been with us from day one… I didn’t want it to end this way, but unfortunately the costs have gotten so high.”
Customers have shared their sadness in the comments, with one writing: “Oh my God I am shocked Joan. Cannot believe this news.
“If Bliss cannot stay open there is no hope for other small businesses. Yours was truly the nicest and freshest.
“I remember the early sit down days in the cafe. A well run family business. Sad to see the doors close.”
While Joan’s little sister also commented: “Joan you have put your heart and soul into Bliss Cafe you’ve made it what it is and with support from Team Bliss you made a lovely little small community around your business.
“Thank you so much to all over lovely customers and for all your support.”
