Murder probe under way as man, 70s, found dead at house

A murder investigation is under way after a man in his 70s was found dead in a house near the Dublin-Meath border last night.

Gardaí were called to a house in Tobersool near Balbriggan in north county Dublin at around 11pm where the man’s body was discovered.

The man sustained fatal injuries and appeared to have died violently following an attack.

A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

The scene has been preserved by gardaí

He is being detained at a garda station in the Dublin area.

The scene has been preserved and the State Pathologist’s office and the Garda Technical Bureau have been called in.

The man’s body has been removed from the scene and driven away in a private ambulance.

The technical team is continuing to conduct an examination of the house, which is located on a quiet residential lane, just off the M1 near the Dublin-Meath border.

Gardaí at Balbriggan have established an incident room and a senior investigating officer has been appointed.

They have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.

It is believed the victim and the suspect knew each other.
