An Post has advised customers in Dublin 12 of a “serious service failure” which it said is subject to an ongoing garda investigation.

Some customers had around eight weeks’ worth of mail delivered today along with a letter containing an apology from An Post.

The letter said the mail had been located “during the course of the investigation”.

The note continued: “While the investigation is ongoing, we are unable to provide any further information. However, please rest assured that the delivery of your mail, the full resolution of this unfortunate matter and the resumption of our top-quality delivery service remain our highest priorities.”

The letter also contains a dedicated phone line for affected customers.

In a statement, gardaí said: “Gardaí are investigating a report of alleged theft of a volume of material from a national service provider, involving a member of staff in the Dublin 12 area.

“An Garda Síochána is liaising with the affected service provider on the matter.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
