Corn na nÓg final

St Pat’s, Cavan 0-14

St Colman’s, Newry 2-5

Paul Fitzpatrick at Castleblayney

St Patrick’s College landed the school’s third Corn nan Óg (U14.5) title in the last 10 years with a well-deserved win over St Colman’s, Newry in today’s final at St Mary’s Park, Castleblayney.

St Pat’s led by 0-8 to 0-1 at half-time, with midfielder Killian Smith (Lavey) firing over some quality points.

The Cavan side had to withstand a gallant comeback from the Newry lads in the second half. A penalty for St Colman’s cut the gap to four at one point but St Pat’s kicked on again.

Their opponents’ second goal came with the final kick of the match as St Pat’s ran out winners with a bit to spare.

The St Pat’s defence played well as a unit, with full-back Noah Costello (Crosserlough) among those to impress.

Wing-forward Enda Burke also came up with some timely scores while team captain Zach Byrne (Cavan Gaels) also stood out among other excellent individual performances.
